In late Feb. of 2008, Sharon Dodge, President of the Board of Directors of the Venetia Condominium Association, was able to get into the head office of one of the NYC media companies then hotly competing in Miami for wall mural ad space on our city’s downtown building walls.
Dodge went there in the hope of realizing a potential $200,000 to $500,000 per year income for the Venetia Condo Association, from the “blank rear west wall” of our building, the wall that faces Biscayne Blvd. and the church.
Discussions ensued quickly once interest was raised by her presentation,”which was a well-researched, photographed, professionally prepared ‘ad pitch’, since a proposed Miami lottery was imminently pending for the few desired allowed locations, or ’spots’ “. Read more…
Grilling is a summertime treat for most folks - for us it’s a year round activity and many have special ways of preparing their favorite foods on the grill. Unfortunately, due to the fire code, it is illegal to have a grill on your patio - unless it is electric.
This ban was ratified by the Board at the most recent Board Meeting. You cannot store gas canisters of any size on the balcony on in your unit. A recent National Post article said “Most condos don’t allow outdoor cooking,” so it’s not limited to the Venetia, or Miami-Dade County for that matter. The article also went on to say that “barbecue restrictions can cause tempers to sizzle,” and I can fully understand for the avid grill-master.

It took almost three months, but on July 29, 2008 NPR finally corrected a statement made by Mr. Greg Allen at the end of the “All Things Considered” broadcast many of us tuned into on May 6, 2008. Sharon and Stacey were featured on the program which concluded with a statement by Mr. Allen that
the owners of these luxury downtown condos [Venetia] are doing something that just a few years ago, they wouldn’t have considered. They’ve signed a deal to rent out one side of their building as space for a billboard.
You may recall that Sharon announced at a town meeting in February 2008 that we the owners had an opportunity to “adopt” a “million-dollar baby,” i.e., rent out one or more of our walls for a billboard. Read more…

The Board of Directors of the Venetia Condominium Association announces the appointment of Loretta Alkalay as Board Vice President. She fills the vacancy resulting from the resignation of Stacey Stokes and will serve out the remainder of her term. The appointment will be ratified at the next Board’s Meeting.
Loretta has been Regional Counsel for a major federal agency in NY for the last 20 years, handling complex litigation, as well as routine real estate, procurement and personnel matters. Most of these years, she’s been forced to manage resources under tight financial constraints; doing much more with much less was a regular challenge. We’re sure she will use these skills to help Venetia move forward while weathering the fiscal crisis that has hit so hard in South Florida. Read more…
