Tropical Storm Hanna is beginning to get its act together. The upper level low to Hanna’s west has weakened some and moved away, allowing Hanna to position its center of circulation underneath its heaviest thunderstorm activity. Visible satellite loops show that the amount and intensity of heavy thunderstorm activity has increased considerably, and there are now two prominent upper-level outflow channels visible, on the north and east sides. Strong upper-level winds from the upper-level low to Hanna’s west are still interfering with the thunderstorm development and upper-level outflow on Hanna’s west side. Radar out of Martinique shows a large area of heavy thunderstorms that are poorly organized no spiral bands. This morning’s QuikSCAT pass saw winds of 40-55 mph at the surface. The first Hurricane Hunter mission for Hanna is scheduled for Sunday. Read more…

Introducing Dexter
Beautiful Dog – Rescued (1 year old) Meet Dex!
We found him dying –-curled up in a dirty puddle between the Marriottt and the Venetia Plaza. He could barely stand, was spaced out and about as close to death as any animal can be. We took him to the vet who put him on an I.V. drip to re-hydrate.
He is amazingly, now a week later, doing very well — tail wagging, energy coming back full force. He’s young and trainable. He could weigh about 45 pounds when fully recovered from starvation.
He needs: A LOVING HOME – he is extremely friendly and affectionate despite the terrible neglect.
This is a lucky dog! – And he will bring you love and luck as well!
Call (305) 358 8755 –Rebecca Gillings
**Incidentally Rebecca has paid for all Dexter’s vet care. Other residents who want to help her help Dexter, may make a small donation in the Venetia office, or contact her to visit him.
Venetia is to be a New Home to Miami International University!
The Board of Directors is pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached with Miami International University to rent much of the remaining Mezzanine second floor commercial space. This is going to bring in needed income at a full, fair market rate to the Association for 10 months, plus bring equally valuable activity, energy and occupancy to the remaining quiet, “abandoned” areas of our commercial floor, increasing its value in the process.
It is the opinion of the Board of Directors that this rental will not cause any restraints upon future possible sale due to the fact that the rental will require no architectural modification, and initially at least is for just a 10 month period (though it could become longer term, if it works out for the parties). We are delighted to welcome our new occupants to the Venetia. Read more…
New Advisory Board Member- Jack Wolfsdorf
The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jack Wolfsdorf to the Board of Directors of the Venetia Condominium Association. This is an appointed, non-voting board seat, but carries many of the same responsibilities as the voting board seats.
Board President Sharon Dodge, says “Jack has shown a lot of interest in the Venetia progress and well-being, and has served on the Finance committee since March. We are glad to have his help and good counsel on the many pressing matters before us during the remainder of this year’s Board term. Thanks Jack, for stepping up to the plate with us.”
If you do not know Jack yet, take time to introduce yourself and meet him at the next regularly scheduled board meeting. Advisory Board members participate in the same way as voting board members in all meetings, except they do not vote.

Seeking a Few Good Volunteers
Seeking a few good volunteers to assist the Board in evaluating management companies before Continental’s agreement expires in December of this year. I know some of you think very highly of Continental, especially some of their recent hires; I also know some of you believe that a different management company might provide better service at less cost.
Whatever our feelings, the Board needs to rigorously review the costs and benefits of staying with Continental vs. the costs and benefits of changing management companies. It would be great to get three or four people with the interest, time and energy to do a comparative analysis of the pros and cons of various management companies. This will involve a fair amount of work in a short period of time.
If you are interested, and have the time and energy to spend between now and December, please send me an email (click here) with your contact info and any relevant expertise you want us to consider.
Thanks and I look forward to working with you.

Vice-President
Venetia Condominium Association
Check out the new walls in Elevator 4
The Venetia is proud to show off the new mica walls in our freight elevator. Here’s some great pics taken by our building management team. As many are aware, the walls were laden with graffiti and were not attractive. This is a great upgrade for the Venetia!
