First, I want to say a special thank you for those who attended the Board meeting last week. It was difficult meeting, many issues were raised and clearly many of you have concerns that are not being addressed. A Board meeting is by definition a “working meeting and is not the best forum for new questions or for deep discussion of crucial issues.
I’ d like to talk to all of you, face to face if possible, in a series of town meetings, starting this Tuesday and Thursday evening at 7 pm in the 2nd floor meeting room, and continuing next Tuesday as well. The topic for this Tuesday is “Management Review. We will have enough time for any and all questions in this type of forum, and a chance to really listen to you all.

The Mezzanine was buzzing with about 30 members of the Venetia community as the 8-23 Special Assessment Committee Meeting was called to order. Jay, Sharon and Stacy were all present and led the meeting. To start the meeting, the windows were hidden in a photo essay of the most recent improvements made to the building during the current Board’s tenure. It was also noted that our building was dangerously close to condemnation prior to a number of these things being fixed under City and State statutes.
The sub-committees of Finance and Construction were called to the front row in the meeting room and an overview was provided by the Finance sub-committee chair. During the past week, the Finance group has met several times to review and “filter” what exactly is the current financial status of the building.
Consultants designing the estimated $200 million Miami Streetcar Project will make a visual presentation at the Miami Roads Neighborhood Civic Association monthly meeting Wednesday (January 31, 2007).
Grace Solares, president of the association and newly elected president of Miami Neighborhoods United, said the city hopes to sway the association, which opposes the project.
The association thinks the project is too expensive and is a gift to developers of the Midtown Miami project, who they say would benefit from the streetcar. ”Nothing in the world is going to convince us otherwise,” Solares said.
