The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jack Wolfsdorf to the Board of Directors of the Venetia Condominium Association. This is an appointed, non-voting board seat, but carries many of the same responsibilities as the voting board seats.
Board President Sharon Dodge, says “Jack has shown a lot of interest in the Venetia progress and well-being, and has served on the Finance committee since March. We are glad to have his help and good counsel on the many pressing matters before us during the remainder of this year’s Board term. Thanks Jack, for stepping up to the plate with us.”
If you do not know Jack yet, take time to introduce yourself and meet him at the next regularly scheduled board meeting. Advisory Board members participate in the same way as voting board members in all meetings, except they do not vote.
Sharon Dodge, President of the Venetia Board of Directors, responds here to a recent post titled Election Procedures: Facts and Questions
Nothing hinders or challenges a small Board of Directors more than the sudden resignation of one of its Directors mid-term. An immediate void disrupts the team and leaves a big job no longer being done.
For this reason, both the serving residential director and the commercial director made the unanimous decision to appoint Loretta Alkalay to the Board of Directors, to serve as Vice-President for the remainder of the term.
Alkalay is an attorney with countless years of organizational management experience who has long served as a volunteer at the Venetia. She has a strong willingness to serve, and is, in short, an excellent person for the job. Everyone, even those who question the appointment on principle, agree that she is a great choice.
Also, because of the exceptional work load of the Board, we have appointed a new, non-voting, Advisory Board member to our Board of Directors, Candace Vasillion, to help ‘fill the gap’. In addition, we plan to appoint at least one more non-voting, Advisory Board member to our Board of Directors.
In view of the work that remains and the high rate of “burnout” on all Boards, expect to see a proposal for your consideration in the coming Annual Election in January of ‘09, to expand the voting Board members by at least two new seats.

The Board of Directors of the Venetia Condominium Association announces the appointment of Loretta Alkalay as Board Vice President. She fills the vacancy resulting from the resignation of Stacey Stokes and will serve out the remainder of her term. The appointment will be ratified at the next Board’s Meeting.
Loretta has been Regional Counsel for a major federal agency in NY for the last 20 years, handling complex litigation, as well as routine real estate, procurement and personnel matters. Most of these years, she’s been forced to manage resources under tight financial constraints; doing much more with much less was a regular challenge. We’re sure she will use these skills to help Venetia move forward while weathering the fiscal crisis that has hit so hard in South Florida. Read more…

As the building prepares for the new roof, the Board has provided an update on the Assessment fund for your review. You may download the report by clicking here. A big thanks to the Finance Committee for the ongoing work and dedication to our building.
The Annual Meeting and Election was held tonight at the 2nd floor meeting room at the Venetia at 7PM. There was a great turnout and it was great to see so many people there.
The meeting began by the selection of individuals to count the results of the amendments and election voting in teams of two. After selection, the Board had an open forum to discuss anything on people’s minds.
The topic of the studio and it’s allocation of maintenance and assessments was raised. Discussion ensued regarding how it was calculated in the docs, how the amendment would be next to impossible to modify and the will of the people were displayed. Many agreed it is morally wrong, but as previously pointed out by a Venetia Attorney at a recent Town Hall meeting, our docs were developed the year prior to modification in the Florida Statutes which make the allocation of assessments, as done in our building, illegal after the passing of the law. Any prior organizational docs were excluded from the legislation. Read more…
